Vol. 472 No. 1

Written Answers. - Social Insurance Fund.

Helen Keogh

Question:

260 Ms Keogh asked the Minister for Social Welfare the estimated full year yield to the social insurance fund from removing the contribution ceiling on employers' PRSI in respect of the tax years 1996-97 and 1997-98. [22263/96]

The employers' PRSI ceiling currently stands at £26,800. It is estimated that if the employers' PRSI ceiling had been abolished for the current contribution year, 1996-97, there would have been an additional yield of approximately £80 million to the social insurance fund and that if the employers' PRSI ceiling was removed for the 1997-98 contribution year, there would be an additional yield of approximately £89 million.
