Vol. 472 No. 1

Written Answers. - Performance-Related Bonus Scheme.

Tony Killeen

Question:

277 Mr. Killeen asked the Minister for Tourism and Trade whether he has been requested to approve performance-related bonuses for chief executives or other officers of semi-State bodies under the aegis of his Department. [22126/96]

I understand that since the Minister's appointment in December 1994, approval to provide for a performance-related bonus has been sough in two cases, namely for the recently appointed chief executive of An Bord Tráchtála and the international marketing director in Bord Fáilte, both of whom are employed on fixed term contracts.

In the case of CERT, in accordance with the recommendations of the Review Body on Higher Remuneration in the Public Service, the board may make a bonus payment to the chief executive of not more than 15 per cent of his annual salary. The board of CERT have not sought the Minister's approval to date for the introduction of a scheme for this purpose.
