Vol. 472 No. 1

Written Answers. - Local Employment Trading Systems.

Trevor Sargent

Question:

297 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment if he will consider investigating and reporting on the role of local employment trading systems in fostering local economic activity and enterprise among unemployed people. [22837/96]

The Deputy will be aware that the trading system in question is primarily noncommercial and is, of course, of a voluntary nature. As such, any question of reporting and assessing its potential for fostering local development would be appropriate in the first instance to the area based partnership companies under area development management limited. I will bring the matter to the attention of my collegue, Deputy Gay Mitchell, Minister of State at the Department of the Taoiseach with responsibility for Local Development and European Affairs.
