Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 21 and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputies Kirk and Michael Kitt — the need to avail of the opportunity of the upcoming World Trade Organisation meeting in Singapore to highlight the importance of food security for countries of the majority world and to work towards practical measures to achieve it; (2) Deputy Ring — the need for the Minister for Health to intervene to prevent the reduction in the hours worked by home help staff in County Mayo for budgetary reasons rather than medical ones as this service is vital to the elderly; (3) Deputy Quill — the impending closure of the Irish Crown Cork Company Limited, Churchfield, Cork city and the need to boost employment on the north side of the city; (4) Deputy Joe Walsh — the failure to allocate funding to provide necessary facilities to offshore islands; (5) Deputy Seán Ryan — the future of the vegetable industry in view of the current levels of importation; (6) Deputy McCreevy — the position regarding the funding for the Connolly-Maynooth rail line as recommended in the Dublin Transport Initiative; (7) Deputy O'Dea — the decision of the Director of Public Prosecutions to prosecute for careless driving only in the case of an accident which resulted in two fatalities; (8) Deputy Lawlor — the failure of the Government to bring forward legislation on the capping of charity lottery prizes before the end of 1995, the likelihood of the revised deadline of early 1997 being met and the consequent effect on the fund-raising capacities of major charitable organisations; (9) Deputy Batt O'Keeffe — the services provided for a 14 year old child in Cork who was homeless during the October bank holiday weekend and who was not accommodated by the local health services; (10) Deputy Ned O'Keeffe — the proposed closure of the Convent of Mercy post primary school, Buttevant, County Cork; (11) Deputy Deasy — the need to provide sanction for school transport for children with special needs from County Waterford to enable them to avail of the special facilities at the Presentation primary school, Clonmel, County Tipperary; (12) Deputy Brendan Smith — the need to confer full-time status on the Cavan Education Centre; (13) Deputy Martin — the need to allocate funds to Ballintemple national school, Crab Lane, Cork, to ensure the commencement of an extension to the school, as public liability insurance will be withdrawn in January 1997 unless sanction is received; (14) Deputy Keogh — the growing problem of traffic congestion in Dublin and the urgent need for a strategic traffic management plan; (15) Deputy Geoghegan-Quinn — the urgent need to meet the nursing unions and reopen talks with nurses to avoid a major industrial dispute and (16) Deputy Dermot Ahern — the need to assist Irish hauliers stranded in France.

The matters raised by Deputies Geoghegan-Quinn, Quill, McCreevy and Dermot Ahern have been selected for discussion.
