Michael Ahern

Question:

89 Mr. M. Ahern asked the Minister for Tourism and Trade the number of times the foreign earnings committee met in 1996; and the issues considered and resolved by the committee. [21987/96]

The foreign earnings committee was established to co-ordinate overseas promotion of Ireland's economic and commercial interests. The committee is chaired by the Minister for Tourism and Trade and consists of senior officials from relevant Government Departments together with chief executives of the overseas promotional agencies. The committee has met on two occasions to date in 1996. The issues considered at these meetings have included the following reports from local foreign earnings co-ordination committees in our main markets, the medium-term plan for official representation overseas, the co-ordination of the response of the overseas promotional agencies to the BSE situation and the "Brand Ireland" tourism project.
