Vol. 472 No. 1

Written Answers. - Review Group Report.

Mary Wallace

Question:

122 Miss M. Wallace asked the Minister for Health the contacts, if any, he has made with the health boards regarding plans for the implementation of the recommendations of the report on people with physical or sensory disabilities; whether he has recommended such plans himself; the provisions, if any, he considers necessary for the therapy needs of children; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22402/96]

Limerick East): The Deputy will appreciate that as the report of the review group is being finalised, consideration of its recommendations is at an early stage. However, officials from my Department are in regular contact with health boards regarding the provision and development of services for people with physical and sensory disabilities. I am confident that this contact will facilitate the implementation of further service developments following publication of the review group report. The development of therapy services for children will be given careful consideration in the context of the report. I recently met representatives of the Disability Federation of Ireland and reiterated my commitment to the improvement of services for people with a physical or sensory disability.
