Vol. 472 No. 1

Written Answers. - Patient Discharge.

Mary O'Rourke

Question:

153 Mrs. O'Rourke asked the Minister for Health if he will request a review in respect of the case of a person (details supplied) in County Wicklow who was discharged swiftly from the casualty department of Ardkeen Hospital and whose parents feel that his case warranted and continues to warrant further investigation. [22669/96]

Limerick East): I understand from the South Eastern Health Board that the person in question, who worked in Waterford, attended the Accident and Emergency Department at Waterford Regional Hospital on 27 October 1996. The person was seen by the registrar on duty, was given pain killers and discharged with a head injury card. This person attended again on 28 October 1996 with some of the symptoms referred to in the head injury card and was admitted to hospital. The person was discharged on 30 October 1996. The patient was seen at an out-patient clinic on 5 November 1996 and was discharged to the care of his general practitioner. I am informed by the board that the treatment offered to this patient was consistent with the complaint as presented.
