123 Mrs. O'Rourke asked the Minister for the Environment if he will review a case which has recently been put to him by Athlone Urban District Council for finance for two cases of grant in lieu of housing; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23289/96]
The determination of eligibility for funding under the improvement works in lieu of local authority housing scheme is a matter for the local authority concerned. Athlone Urban District Council has been informed that it is a matter for it to determine, having regard to the conditions of the scheme, whether particular proposals are eligible. Reference to my Department is required only where the cost of the works in an individual case exceeds £17,000.
