Vol. 472 No. 3

Written Answers. - School Transport.

Michael Ring

Question:

147 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Education the decision, if any, which has been made for an extension to a school transport system request for a person (details supplied) in County Mayo. [23092/96]

The level of service available is considered to be reasonable and adequate in the context of the general operation of the school transport scheme.

Post-primary school transport routes are planned so that no eligible child will have more than three miles to travel to a pick-up point and eligible children on primary routes will have no more than one and a half miles to travel to a pick-up point. Pupils living off the main route of a service are generally expected to make their own way, or to be brought to convenient pick-up points along the main route. Accordingly, the present arrangement is the most that can be offered.
