Vol. 472 No. 3

Written Answers. - Teacher Appointments.

James McDaid

Question:

177 Dr. McDaid asked the Minister for Education the way in which acting positions are filled in second level schools in County Donegal (details supplied). [23173/96]

It is assumed that the Deputy is referring to the filling of a vice-principal post on an acting basis due to the temporary absence of the permanent vice-principal. Memorandum V7, which governs the appointment of vocational teachers, does not lay down any specific procedures which vocational education committees must follow when filling an acting vice-principal post. It is, therefore, open to the vocational education committee to decide whether a particular acting vice-principal post should be filled through competitive interview or otherwise.
