James McDaid

Question:

193 Dr. McDaid asked the Minister for Education the reason she has not responded to the demands set out by the Students' Union of Ireland and forwarded to her on 10 October 1996; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [23265/96]

It is proposed to take Questions Nos. 192 and 193 together.

The setting up of a working group with student representation to examine the real cost of living for students is one of the proposals outlined by the Union of Students in Ireland in its document "Education in Ireland — the Student Strategy for Change". My Department has almost finalised its examination of those issues raised in the document which refer to my area of responsibility and I hope to be in a position to respond to the USI in the very near future.
