Vol. 472 No. 3

Written Answers. - School Transport.

John Ellis

Question:

195 Mr. Ellis asked the Minister for Education if she will restore the same level of school transport service to a family (details supplied) in County Leitrim as was available to it prior to the closing of its local national school; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [23274/96]

School transport is generally organised to ensure that no eligible pupil attending a primary school will reside more than 1.5 miles from the route of the service. The children in question live 0.8 miles from the existing pick-up point. This is considered to be a very reasonable level of service in the context of the general operation of the school transport scheme. Accordingly, the present arrangement is the most that can be offered.
