Vol. 472 No. 3

Written Answers. - Age Discrimination in Employment.

Ivor Callely

Question:

247 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment his understanding of the upper age limit where older people experience difficulties in obtaining employment; the measures, if any, he intends to introduce to address this matter; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23037/96]

It is undoubtedly the case that some employers tend to prefer younger applicants to older ones when filling vacancies. This problem is being addressed by the Minister for Equality and Law Reform in the Employment Equality Bill, 1996.
