Vol. 472 No. 3

Written Answers. - Ballyfermot (Dublin) Task Force.

Tony Gregory

Question:

40 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment if a special task force will be set up as a matter of urgency with the objective of retaining the Semperit workforce under a new owner and to attract new jobs to the general Ballyfermot area; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17569/96]

As I indicated earlier today in my reply to Priority Question No. 11 the present position with regard to Semperit is that the IDA are endeavouring to obtain an early response from a potential US investor. The Deputy can take it that the State agencies (IDA, Forbairt, FÁS), the county enterprise board and others are working in close co-ordination to ensure that the services that they can offer to both Semperit workers and for local development are deployed to best effect. My officials are meeting with those bodies to explore the plans and preparations that have been put in place to address local needs, whatever the outcome of IDA's efforts to find a purchaser of assets of Semperit.
