Vol. 472 No. 8

Written Answers. - Tax Reliefs.

Mary O'Rourke

Question:

63 Mrs. O'Rourke asked the Minister for Finance if he will review the case of a person (details supplied) in County Westmeath who applied some time ago for financial aid for a special car to cater for his disability. [24262/96]

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that an application for repayment of VRT under the Disabled Drivers and Disabled Passengers (Tax Concessions) Regulations, 1994 was received from the person named in the Deputy's question on 27 November 1996. However, as the particulars of the applicant's disablement which were indicated on the primary medical certificate furnished did not conform with the medical criteria set out in these regulations the certificate was referred to the applicant and the person who issued it for clarification. A fresh medical certificate has now been received which conforms with the necessary medical criteria. Certain additional information, which was not furnished originally, has been requested and repayment will be made as soon as all of the necessary qualifying criteria are met.
