Vol. 472 No. 8

Written Answers. - Aquatic Centre.

John Ellis

Question:

88 Mr. Ellis asked the Minister for Education if she will have arrangements made for the provision of an aquatic centre in the 1997 Estimates in view of the fact that £4 million is available from the private sector and no commitment was sought with regard to the running of the centre. [24198/96]

I refer the Deputy to my reply to a number of oral parliamentary questions on 14 November and to my reply to a written parliamentary question on 12 November 1996 in which I outlined the present position on the 50 metre swimming pool project.

A decision on this project will be made in the context of the Sports Strategy Group's report, which is due to be completed shortly. The question of a provision in the 1997 Estimates does not arise at this stage.
