Vol. 472 No. 8

Written Answers. - School Placement.

Mary O'Rourke

Question:

99 Mrs. O'Rourke asked the Minister for Education the outcome, if any, of the efforts by her Department to secure a second level school placement for a person (details supplied) in County Westmeath. [24265/96]

As outlined in two previous replies to questions from the Deputy regarding this case, the selection and enrolment of pupils is a matter in the first instance for individual school authorities. However, in exceptional circumstances, my Department does provide assistance in seeking a school placement through a process of consultation with school authorities and these efforts are ongoing in this case.

My Department has recently written to the parents of the pupil concerned with a view to having any special educational needs identified. When a reply is received, further action can be considered in the case.
