Vol. 473 No. 1

Written Answers. - Waterford Respite Care Centre.

Mary Wallace

Question:

105 Miss M. Wallace asked the Minister for Health the reason for the failure to support the establishment of a respite care centre in Waterford; the alternative provisions, if any, which are being made for such services in the Waterford area; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24434/96]

Revenue and capital funding of £133,000 was provided to the South-Eastern Health Board by my Department in 1996 for the establishment of a new respite centre in Waterford. I understand from the South-Eastern Health Board that arrangements are currently being made for the purchase of the premises for this service. It is hoped that the service will commence in early 1997 and will provide a service for people with a mental handicap and for people with physical disabilities.
