Vol. 473 No. 1

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Michael P. Kitt

Question:

189 Mr. M. Kitt asked the Minister for the Environment the date on which documentation for a group water scheme (details supplied) in County Galway was sent to his Department; the cost of the scheme; if a supplementary grant will be made available in this regard; and when he will grant approval for this scheme. [24391/96]

The design for this 30-house scheme was received in my Department in mid 1993 and was approved by Galway County Council in May 1994. Because of the large diameter watermains needed to meet downstream demand, the scheme is an expensive one, estimated to cost £210,000. For this reason, the scheme has to be considered in the context of the funding available from the European Regional Development Fund for the development of certain group water schemes. Having regard to existing level of commitments in respect of such funding, I cannot say when it may be possible to approve the scheme.
