Vol. 473 No. 1

Written Answers. - Grant Aid.

Austin Deasy

Question:

214 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for Education if she will sanction grant aid for a one-year course in the national certificate in applied social studies in social care, parish ministry; and if she will examine the case of a person (details supplied) in County Waterford in view of the financial hardship resulting from the non-payment of this grant aid. [24294/96]

Grants under the higher education grants scheme and the vocational education committee scholarship scheme are payable in respect of approved undergraduate courses which are defined to mean full-time undergraduate courses of at least two years duration. The national certificate course in applied social studies in social care, parish ministry at St. Patrick's College, Carlow is a one year undergraduate course. Therefore, the student in question is ineligible for student support for this course.
