214 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for Education if she will sanction grant aid for a one-year course in the national certificate in applied social studies in social care, parish ministry; and if she will examine the case of a person (details supplied) in County Waterford in view of the financial hardship resulting from the non-payment of this grant aid. Grants under the higher education grants scheme and the vocational education committee scholarship scheme are payable in respect of approved undergraduate courses which are defined to mean full-time undergraduate courses of at least two years duration. The national certificate course in applied social studies in social care, parish ministry at St. Patrick's College, Carlow is a one year undergraduate course. Therefore, the student in question is ineligible for student support for this course.
