Vol. 473 No. 1

Written Answers. - Garda Transport.

Noel Dempsey

Question:

281 Mr. Dempsey asked the Minister for Justice the plans, if any, she has to provide Garda squad cars in Kinnegad, County Westmeath in view of the strategic position of Kinnegad geographically; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [24621/96]

The Garda authorities are responsible for the detailed allocation of Garda personnel and resources to individual areas. They have informed me that arrangements had recently been put in place to allocate a patrol car to Kinnegad Garda station to replace the vanette previously allocated there. I understand that the patrol car was, in fact, collected on 16 December. I also understand that as the need arises the area is patrolled by mobile units from other stations, including the traffic corps based at the divisional headquarters in Mullingar.
