Vol. 473 No. 1

Written Answers. - Coastal Erosion.

Dermot Ahern

Question:

364 Mr. D. Ahern asked the Minister for the Marine the current position regarding the application by Louth County Council for coastal erosion funding to enable it to carry our remedial works along the County Louth coast; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24329/96]

Louth County Council's application is on hand in the Department of the Marine and will continue to be given consideration over the remaining years of the Operational Programme for Environmental Services. Among the priority proposals submitted by the council was the construction of protection works at Annagassan.

The council subsequently sought grant aid to undertake a comprehensive study of the erosion problem and possible remedial solutions at Annagassan. Grant aid has been made available to the council for this study which is due to be finalised shortly.
