Vol. 473 No. 1

Written Answers. - Personal Assistance Services.

Brendan Kenneally

Question:

37 Mr. Kenneally asked the Minister for Health if he will publish the cost-benefit analysis for personal assistance services which was commissioned as a result of an approach from the Centre for Independent Living; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22453/96]

Limerick East): This study was commissioned by my Department on the advice of the advisory group on personal assistance services for people with physical disabilities to establish the total costs of personal assistance services, In view of the representations I have received I have decided to make it available to the Centre for Independent Living having regard to their special interest and expertise in this area.

As I have previously stated in this House, the future provision of personal assistants has been examined in the context of an overall review of services for people with physical disabilities by the review group on services for people with physical and sensory disabilities whose final report will be published shortly.
