Vol. 473 No. 1

Written Answers. - Renewable Energy Investors.

Seamus Brennan

Question:

83 Mr. S. Brennan asked the Minister for Finance his views on tax incentives for investors in renewable energy; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24586/96]

I should say that capital allowances at normal rates are available for allowable capital expenditure in renewable energy projects such as wind energy development.

In my 1966 budget speech I directed my Department in conjunction with other Departments and relevant agencies to examine the strategic impact of taxation on environmental policy and to bring forward specific tax measures for the 1997 budget which have due regard to competitiveness considerations.

This Environmental Taxation Group is currently considering a range of environmental tax and incentive options and will produce a report on these alternatives in advance of the budget.
