116 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications the total cost to the Exchequer in 1996 arising out of the use of air transport for all foreign and internal flights by him and the people accompanying him; if he will give the comparative figures for each of the years 1980 and 1990; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24763/96]
The total costs to the Exchequer in 1996 arising from the use of air transport for all foreign and internal flights by the Minister and those accompanying him currently amount to £23,878.91. I should add that the cost of a number of trips in the latter part of 1996 has yet to be finalised as bills that are processed through the relevant Irish Embassy have yet to be received for payment in my Department.
It is not possible to give the Deputy comparative figures for 1980 and 1990 as the areas of Transport, Energy and Communications were spread between different Departments at that stage.
