Vol. 473 No. 2

Written Answers. - People with Disabilities.

Ivor Callely

Question:

18 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Equality and Law Reform the consideration, if any, he has given to introducing legislation to address the serious crises which prevail for people with a disability, particularly people with a mental handicap who are being denied their entitlement to services and facilities; his understanding in this regard; his views on the need for reform in this area; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24626/96]

Equality legislation being prepared by my Department will address the issue of discrimination in access to services and facilities by people with disabilities. The issue of more general legislation on disability will fall to be considered by the interdepartmental task force and the monitoring committee which I am establishing following the publication of the report of the Commission on the Status of People with Disabilities.
