Vol. 473 No. 2

Written Answers. - Ambulance Service.

Cecilia Keaveney

Question:

50 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for Health the current position in relation to having an ambulance provided in Buncrana, County Donegal; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24777/96]

Limerick East): The provision of an ambulance service in County Donegal is the responsibility of the North-Western Health Board in the first instance. The North-Western Health Board has advised me that a recent detailed review of the board's ambulance service has confirmed that the most effective service for the Inishowen area could be provided by the continued operation of one base, in Carndonagh, for the area. The board has agreed to appoint an additional ambulance driver to the existing ambulance team in Carndonagh to improve ambulance cover in the Inishowen area. The health board has also advised me that arrangements for the provision of further standby ambulance cover for the Buncrana area has been agreed with a local company in respect of the infrequent occasions when a response from Carndonagh might be delayed when available ambulances are already deployed.
