Written Answers. - DIT Accommodation.

Mildred Fox

Question:

74 Ms M. Fox asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the fact that there are only 12 seats in the library in the Dublin Institute of Technology Conservatory of Music and Drama to accommodate 112 students; if so, the plans, if any she has to rectify this inadequate situation; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [24766/96]

Funding for Dublin Institute of Technology's School of Music is being considered in the context of a development plan which is at present being prepared by the institute. As an interim measure, the College of Commerce building at Rathmines was made available to the school.

With regard to additional library places for all students of Dublin Institute of Technology the sum of £11.75 million has been set aside under the 1994 to 1999 European Regional Development Fund programme for developments at Cathal Brugha Street College of Catering and the second phase of a major extension at Aungier Street. The development of Aungier Street, which mainly comprises new library facilities, will be available for all students of the Dublin Institute of Technology.
