Question:

274 Mr. Leonard asked the Minister for the Environment if he will introduce water/sewerage grants for domestic dwellings which are lacking such services, particularly in cases where the owners are unable to provide from their own resources. [1571/97]

Grants are available under the group water scheme programme to assist with the provision of water supplies to groups of houses in rural areas. I have no proposals to introduce water/sewerage grants for individual houses.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 275 and 293 together.

This scheme is being considered in the context of my Department's water and sewerage schemes work programme for 1997, details of which I will announce shortly.
