Question:

299 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for the Environment the total number of applicants on local authority housing lists for consideration in respect of allocation, transfers and homelessness; if he will give a breakdown for each local authority; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1712/97]

In March 1996 local authorities carried out an assessment of housing needs and of the number of homeless persons. Details of the results of the assessment, based on returns from local authorities, are included in Parts VIII and IX of the Department's Housing Statistics Bulletin for the September 1996 quarter, copies of which are in the Oireachtas Library.
