311 Ms Keogh asked the Minister for Education the reason the signing of yearly contracts with part-time teachers at regional technical colleges has been delayed; the reason for this delay; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [25280/96]
The Regional Technical Colleges Act, 1992, provides that "a college may appoint such and so many persons to be its officers (in addition to the Director) and servants as, subject to the approval of the Minister given with the concurrence of the Minister for Finance, the Governing Body from time to time thinks proper" Accordingly my function in relation to staffing of the colleges is to sanction a quota of posts for each institution.
Arrangements for the signing of contracts with staff of regional technical colleges are a matter for the college authorities.
