Vol. 473 No. 4

Written Answers. - Visiting Teacher Service.

Joe Costello

Question:

328 Mr. Costello asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the case of a child (details supplied) with Down's Syndrome who requires a continuous back-up service to assist her integration in school; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [1103/97]

I am aware of the case to which the Deputy refers.

My Department had made arrangements for this child to receive special support from the Visiting Teacher Service. Unfortunately, this service has been interrupted due to the absence through illness of the visiting teacher in question.

My Department is currently reviewing caseload arrangements within the Visiting Teacher Service for the area in question with a view to ensuring an early resumption of service to the child in question.
