Vol. 473 No. 4

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Mary Coughlan

Question:

339 Miss Coughlan asked the Minister for Education when funding will be provided for the proposed extension to Creevy national school, Ballyshannon, County Donegal, as promised in 1996; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [1167/97]

No promise of funding was made in respect of this school. My Department advised the school management in April 1996, that no additional classroom accommodation is warranted in Creevy national school because the current overcrowding results from a significant number of pupils being enrolled from outside the school's catchment area. The school was advised to confine its intake to its own catchment area which would allow the general purpose room to revert to its intended use. My Department is continuing to monitor the enrolment situation at the school.
