Vol. 473 No. 4

Written Answers. - Galway College Development.

Máire Geoghegan-Quinn

Question:

347 Mrs. Geoghegan-Quinn asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the need for increased capital investment in a project (details supplied) in County Galway; if her attention has further been drawn to the fact that, in the absence of increased capital investment, participation and output in key areas of skill shortage may be put at risk; when she intends to address the capital investment shortage; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [1214/97]

Over the past five years almost £10 million has been expended on upgrading and extending the physical resources at the regional technical college Galway. Under the National Development Plan 1994 to 1999, £3.5 million has been allocated for a number of capital developments at the college. Of this amount almost £1 million has been expended to date on hotel training/tourism facilities, the balance amounting to around £2 million remains available for investment in further capital developments at the college. Decisions in respect of increased capital funding for the college will be considered in the context of other priorities and overall resource constraints.
