Vol. 473 No. 4

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Rory O'Hanlon

Question:

365 Dr. O'Hanlon asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the public protest on 14 January 1997 by parents of pupils attending Urbleshanny national school in County Monaghan; the reason for the delay in allocating funding for the provision of a new school; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [1432/97]

My Department is fully informed of developments at Urbleshanny national school. The current position is that architectural planning for the project at this school is complete and the documentation required to invite tenders is prepared.

It was not possible to proceed with the project before now because of the level of contractual commitments on other urgent projects.

At present Urbleshanny is one of a number of urgent projects I am considering for funding in the 1997 building programme. I will take a decision in the matter very shortly and it will be communicated to the school management.
