Vol. 473 No. 4

Written Answers. - Teacher Appointments.

John O'Donoghue

Question:

377 Mr. O'Donoghue asked the Minister for Education whether she will appoint a special needs teacher for second level students who require special tuition in the Iveragh Peninsula, County Kerry; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [1593/97]

I approved the appointment of 56 resource posts to cater for the educational needs of special needs pupils attending second level schools with effect from the beginning of the 1995-96 school year. The posts were allocated on the basis of information supplied by the schools in a specially designed application form.

I regret that I am not in a position to allocate additional posts at present. However, the position of the second level schools in the Iveragh Peninsula will receive every consideration when next it is possible to allocate additional posts.
