Vol. 473 No. 4

Written Answers. - Teacher Appointments.

Thomas P. Broughan

Question:

389 Mr. Broughan asked the Minister for Education if she will provide a resource teacher at a school (details supplied) in Dublin 13 or alternatively find a place in a special school for a difficult pupil who is disruptive and urgently needs special and individual care and attention. [1688/97]

I am aware of the case to which the Deputy refers. However, the school in question has not applied to my Department for a resource teacher post. In the current school year I have allocated an additional ten resource teacher posts to primary schools. As the school in question had not made an application, it was not considered in the context of this allocation.

I am not in a position at present to make further resource teacher posts available to primary schools. I wish to assure the Deputy, however, that my Department's inspectorate is urgently pursuing the issue of a suitable education placement for the child in question. I am hopeful that satisfactory arangements will be put in place in the near future.
