Vol. 473 No. 4

Written Answers. - Prison Facilities.

Tony Gregory

Question:

430 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Justice the current position of eight republican prisoners (details supplied) in County Limerick who have been denied a segregated prison space accorded to other paramilitary groups who have no facilities such as a gym, workshop or education as a result; and if she will ensure that all such prisoners are treated equally. [1295/97]

The regime available to all prisoners is subject, at all times, to operational practicalities. Within these parameters, I am satisfied that the regime available in Limerick Prison is satisfactory. The prisoners mentioned by the Deputy have declined to use the facilities available to them. These facilities are available should they choose to use them.
