Vol. 473 No. 4

Written Answers. - Courts Accommodation.

Declan Bree

Question:

447 Mr. Bree asked the Minister for Justice if the final plans for the refurbishment and development of Sligo courthouse have been approved; if she intends to consult with individuals and groups who use the courthouse regarding the proposals; when work will commence on the project; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [1572/97]

Draft plans for the refurbishment of Sligo courthouse have been prepared by a firm of consultant architects. Consultations on the draft plans have commenced with the court staff, the Judiciary and legal representatives and other interested groups. On receipt of their views further consultation or amendments to the plans may be necessary. On completion of the consultation process, the next step will be to have detailed design plans drawn up and to invite tenders for the work involved.

The Deputy will appreciate that, at this stage, it is too early to give any indication as to timescale, etc. other than to say that I am committed to ensuring that proper court facilities will be made available in Sligo in due course.
