Vol. 473 No. 4

Written Answers. - Radar Noise Compensation.

Michael Ring

Question:

578 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications the compensation, if any, which is available to residents in the Dooncarter Head area of County Mayo who are complaining about the noise level from the radar masts recently erected. [25227/96]

I presume the Deputy is referring to the radar station currently under construction by the Irish Aviation Authority.

I understand from the authority that construction of the station is almost complete and that equipment is currently being installed with a view to commencement of operational use in April 1997.

The authority has informed me that it is not aware of any complaints about noise from the station. Furthermore, the authority advises me that similar stations operated by the authority elsewhere in the country do not generate any noise. The question, therefore, of compensation does not arise.
