Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 21 and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Killeen — the need to provide secure residential accommodation for a person (details supplied) in County Clare; (2) Deputy Cowen — the contingency plan, if any, in the event of the nurses' strike going ahead on Monday, 10 February 1997 at 8 a.m.; (3) Deputy Costello — the need to provide statutory protection for listed buildings; (4) Deputy Shortall — the urgent need to approve Dublin Corporation plans for the redevelopment of the Ballymun Estate, Dublin; (5) Deputy Flanagan — the future of the new Euro peat power station for the midlands; (6) Deputy Sargent — the need to stop the practice of water fluoridation by local authorities because of its effect on health and the environment; (7) Deputy O'Donnell — the efforts being made to resolve the imminent national nurses' strike; (8) Deputy Upton — the need to protect consumers' health from the dangers of infected meat in the context of the Eastern Health Board's failure to prosecute butchers and meat processors following the recommendations of the chief veterinary officer of South Dublin County Council that such action be taken; (9) Deputy O'Rourke — the need to intervene in the dispute at Irish Life so a major escalation in the crisis can be avoided following the suspension of 320 sales staff; (10) Deputy Seán Ryan — the need to address the obnoxious smell emanating from the Loughshinny shore station, north County Dublin, which is having an effect on the residents and on the children of Loughshinny and parts of Rush, County Dublin.

The matters raised by Deputies Cowen, O'Donnell, Sargent and Seán Ryan have been selected for discussion.
