Vol. 474 No. 5

Written Answers. - Rwandan Conflict.

Michael P. Kitt

Question:

38 Mr. M. Kitt asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs the efforts, if any, which have been made to protect the thousands of Rwandan refugees in the Great Lakes region; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2830/97]

I refer the Deputy to my answer to Question No. 89 of Tuesday 28 January. The Government continues to closely monitor the humanitarian situation of the remaining Rwandan refugees in Zaire. International aid agencies, including UNICEF, World Food Programme, International Committee of the Red Cross and United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees are providing emergency relief supplies to refugees in eastern Kivu. The Government is committed to continuing to play its part in supporting these efforts.
