Written Answers. - Light Rail Project.

Ivor Callely

Question:

86 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications the current considerations of the proposed light rail system for Dublin; the likely development over the coming two years; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3351/97]

I refer the Deputy to earlier replies to questions which set out the likely developments in relation to the light rail system for Dublin over the next 24 months, No. 32 on 5 December 1996 dealing with the Tallaght to Dundrum route and No. 2 on 24 October 1996 on the Ballymun route.

Question:

87 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications the ten most common issues of concern which have been brought to his attention regarding the proposed light rail system for Dublin; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3352/97]

As I already stated in a reply to the Deputy on 5 December 1996 the issues raised were set out in replies to the Deputy's Questions Nos. 409 of 2 July 1996 and 221 of 2 October 1996.

Question:

88 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications if he has been in contact with CIE regarding its application for a light rail order; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3353/97]

I have no function in the preparation and submission of the light rail order which is the sole responsibility of CIE.

Since my appointment, I have had informal contacts with CIE on a number of occasions for the purpose of briefing myself on the light rail scheme for Dublin. I understand CIE is engaged in the finalisation of a formal application for a light rail order.

My Department, together with other agencies, are involved in the monitoring of the project generally.
