Vol. 474 No. 7

Written Answers. - Postponement of Meeting.

John Ellis

Question:

55 Mr. Ellis asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs the reason his proposed meeting with Sir Patrick Mayhew was postponed on Wednesday, 5 February 1997; if the postponement related to the unavailability of the Government jet; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4024/97]

I had a three hour meeting with Secretary of State, Sir Patrick Mayhew on Thursday evening 6 February 1997. An earlier and considerably shorter meeting had been scheduled for the previous day, this was postponed by mutual agreement in favour of the more substantive meeting on 6 February. Commitments on both sides would have left insufficient time for a full exchange, if the meeting had gone ahead as scheduled.
