Vol. 474 No. 7

Written Answers. - Health Board Funding.

Robert Molloy

Question:

66 Mr. Molloy asked the Minister for Health whether funding will be approved in 1997 for the provision of a new health centre at Knocknacarra, Galway by the Western Health Board; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3902/97]

Limerick East): As the Deputy will be aware, the provision of health centres in the Galway area is a matter for the Western Health Board in the first instance.

I understand from the board that preliminary work has been carried out on possible site locations for a health centre in the Knocknacarra area, but to date the board has not been able to secure a suitable location. As the Deputy will also be aware Knocknacarra was identified on the Western Health Board's priority list of locations for future health centre development. It has not, however, been identified for development in 1997. Agreement on the board's priorities in 1997 will depend on available resources and I am not in a position at this stage to give a commitment on funding for 1997.
