Vol. 474 No. 7

Written Answers. - Project Funding.

Robert Molloy

Question:

72 Mr. Molloy asked the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht the reason for the delay in deciding on the grant application submitted by Galway Corporation for the completion of the Black Box project at Dyke Road, Galway; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3913/97]

The closing date for receipt of completed applications for assistance under phase II of the cultural development incentives scheme was 10 January 1997. A detailed assessment of all applications received including the application submitted by Galway Corporation in respect of phase II of the black box project, is under way at present. Following the completion of the assessment process, the advisory committee for the scheme will make recommendations to me regarding the level of funding, if any, that should be offered to individual projects. The purpose of this process is to ensure that the best projects, taking all factors into account, emerge and are offered support.

Given that phase II of this scheme was only advertised on 15 November 1996, with a closing date of 10 January 1997 for the receipt by my Department of completed applications, I do not accept that there has been any delay on my part in dealing with Galway Corporation's application or indeed any of the other applications submitted to my Department.
