Question:

12 Mr. B. Ahern asked the Minister for Finance the estimated percentage growth in GNP in Ireland and the United Kingdom in each of the two years 1996 and 1997. [3663/97]

Irish GNP is estimated to have increased by 6.25 per cent in 1996 and is forecast to grow by 5.50 per cent in 1997. The UK treasury does not publish forecasts for GNP.

The UK treasury's estimate of UK GDP growth in 1996 is 2.50 per cent and its forecast for GDP growth in 1997 is 3.50 per cent. Ireland's GDP is estimated to have grown by 7.25 per cent in 1996 and is forecast to increase by 6.50 per cent in 1997.
