Vol. 475 No. 1

Written Answers. - Galway River Cleaning.

Michael P. Kitt

Question:

110 Mr. M. Kitt asked the Minister for Finance if the Office of Public Works will clean up a river (details supplied) in County Galway. [4441/97]

The Corrib-Clare catchment drainage scheme was carried out by the Commissioners of Public Works between 1954 and 1964 and the completed works are now on maintenance. Part of the Nanny River was included in the scheme.

The stretch in question is about 300 metres in length and was cleaned in April 1994 as part of the scheme maintenance programme. Further maintenance in the current year is not considered essential. However, because of the amenity value of the area, the condition of the river will be monitored and any necessary clean up works will be carried out.
