Vol. 475 No. 1

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Dermot Ahern

Question:

184 Mr. D. Ahern asked the Minister for the Environment the current position regarding the proposed south west sector sewerage scheme in Dundalk, County Louth; if this scheme will commence in the near future; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4258/97]

The position is unchanged since the reply to Question No. 332 of 25 September 1996.

John Ellis

Question:

185 Mr. Ellis asked the Minister for the Environment when he will sanction the remaining section of the south Leitrim regional water scheme. [4259/97]

Given the high level of commitments under the water and sewerage programme, I cannot say when it may be possible to approve the proposal.

John Ellis

Question:

186 Mr. Ellis asked the Minister for the Environment when he will sanction the north Leitrim regional water scheme. [4260/97]

The north Leitrim regional water scheme contains proposals for three separate schemes. The planning of the Manorhamilton water scheme is included in my Department's water and sewerage capital work programme, 1997, details of which are issuing to local authorities this week. Given the high level of commitments under the water and sewerage programme, I cannot say when it may be possible to approve the other two proposals for the Dromahaire and Drumkeerin water schemes.

John Ellis

Question:

187 Mr. Ellis asked the Minister for the Environment when he will sanction the remaining sections of the Sligo town and its environs water scheme. [4261/97]

The Sligo and environs regional water supply scheme, phase one, which includes the planning and construction of the Sligo town intake, treatment plant, reservoir and distribution mains and of the Cairns Hill treatment plant, and the planning of the Kilsellagh treatment plant and reservoir, has been approved for Cohesion Funding. The planning of these sections of the scheme is now being progressed.

It is also proposed to make an application to the European Commission for Cohesion Funding for phase two which will include the construction of the Kilsellagh plant and reservoir and proposals for other areas in the environs of Sligo.

Gerard Collins

Question:

188 Mr. Collins asked the Minister for the Environment the current position regarding the proposed group water scheme for Meenoline, Templeglantine, County Limerick; and if he will give an estimated starting time of the scheme. [4274/97]

As already announced, responsibility for the administration of the group schemes programme is being devolved to the local authorities, subject to existing commitments on foot of approvals issued by my Department. Where schemes have already been approved, such as the Meenoline scheme, the local authority will be asked to make a grant allocation to the group as soon as possible.
