Vol. 475 No. 1

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Rory O'Hanlon

Question:

196 Dr. O'Hanlon asked the Minister for Education when the tender will be approved for the extension to Our Lady's school, Castleblayney, County Monaghan; when work will commence on the project; when it will be completed; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [4163/97]

My Department has approved in principle an extension to Our Lady's school, Castleblayney. Architectural planning has progressed satisfactorily and my Department has recently asked the school authorities to prepare at stage 5 — bill of quantities documentation for examination.

This project is one of a number of projects listed on the 1997 capital programme. The question of proceeding to construction is dependent on the successful completion of the architectural planning process, together with competing priorities at that time.

Question:

197 Dr. O'Hanlon asked the Minister for Education the applications she has received for improved building facilities in primary and post-primary schools in counties Cavan and Monaghan; and the current stage of development of each. [4164/97]

Dermot Ahern

Question:

214 Mr. D. Ahern asked the Minister for Education the funding which has been made available to schools in the primary and post-primary sectors in County Louth in connection with school improvements over the past five years; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [4376/97]

I propose to answer Questions Nos. 197 and 214 together.

The information sought by the Deputy is not readily available in my Department and I cannot justify assigning scarce staff resources to its compilation. If the Deputy has a query in respect of any particular school, I will be happy to provide the information.
